Using West Pass to Get to Galveston outside of the ship channel

Clear Lake to Galveston by not going up the Houston Ship Channel. Use West Pass instead. More information below.

Everyone wants to go by boat from Clear Lake or Galveston Bay to Galveston, but did you know there is an easier safer way to do it rather than just hit the boaters cut, get the in the ship channel and having to then keep a lookout out both fore and aft for ship and barge traffic? It’s called West Pass and it’s a deep water section that is just west of the Ship Channel and outside where any of the barges or ships can go so it’s super safe. So how to do it. Well thankfully, the Recreational Boater Info Guy, Phillip Kropf, has gotten the info you need.

The two links below will take you directly to the pages how to get into and use West Pass.

The first of the two files takes you through the Pass, down past the end of the Texas City Dike, and then on into the harbor of Galveston and to Harbor House as a destination. And the second file follows the same route down the bay, but then takes you through Pelican Cut and all the way to Moody Gardens.
